Build an insurance product from scratch, inside a group that already owns the lead generation, the software, and the distribution it will be sold through. Remote-first, across the United States.

What it is like to build an insurance product from scratch

Most insurance jobs are maintenance work on a product someone designed before you arrived. This is the other kind.

There is no in-force book to administer here yet, no legacy admin system to work around, and no set of assumptions inherited from a predecessor. The first product is simplified issue final expense whole life, it is in development, and it is pending state approval. That means the work in front of the team is design, pricing, filing, and building the machinery that will service a policy for thirty years, before a single policy exists.

What makes that unusual is the rest of the group. Acquisition, the phone network, the dialer, enrollment, and contracting are already owned and several of them are in production with paying customers. So the questions here are not the usual startup ones about how to find a customer or what to build on. They are about the product itself: which risks to take, what the underwriting model has to prove, how a claim should feel, and what a state reviewer needs to see.

It also means the pace is set by regulators rather than by a sprint board. Insurance moves at the speed of filings, and being good at this work includes being patient with that while everything you control gets ready.

Solved Insurance products are in development and pending state approval. Nothing is for sale yet, and these roles are about getting a product to approval and to a family, not about administering an existing book.

How the team works

Remote-first across the United States, small enough that the person who makes a decision is the person who explains it.

  • Remote-first, US-based. The team works from wherever they are in the United States. Carrier, department, and field work all run on US business hours, so there is real overlap rather than a follow-the-sun handoff.
  • Written before scheduled. Assumptions, filing decisions, and model changes land in writing, because in this industry the reasoning has to survive being read by someone outside the company a year later.
  • Whole surfaces, not tickets. Pricing, underwriting, filings, claims, and servicing are each owned end to end by someone rather than split into slices of a shared backlog.
  • Explainability is a requirement. Every underwriting decision carries the factors behind it. That is not a preference; it is what makes a model defensible to a regulator and to the applicant it declined.
  • The field is close by. Contracted agents sell what we build, and their feedback arrives fast through the group’s own distribution. You will hear what the product does on a kitchen table, not through a survey.
  • Patience is part of the job. A filing can sit while a reviewer works through a queue. Good work here means having everything else finished when the answer comes back.

FAQs

Applying here

How do I apply?

By email. Send a resume and a short note to contact@solved.insure with the role name in the subject line. There is no application portal on this site and no timed assessment.

Are these roles remote?

Yes. The team is remote-first and based in the United States. The work runs on US business hours because carriers, state departments, and the field all do.

Do I need insurance experience?

For the actuarial, compliance, and claims roles, yes. Product filings, rate support, and claims handling are governed work, and the details are learned on real filings rather than from a textbook. For the engineering role, strong modeling and systems work plus genuine interest in how underwriting decisions get defended is enough. Say which one you are in your note.

Is the product approved yet?

No, and that is the honest framing of every role here. Products are in development and pending state approval, so the first year of this work is building, filing, and preparing rather than administering an in-force book. If you want a seat where the decisions are already made, this is the wrong time to join.

I am a licensed agent. Is this where I apply?

No. Agents are not employees here. Selling runs through contracted independent agents, and contracting is handled by Solved Solutions. See the agent page for the launch roster.

What happens after I send the email?

A person on the team reads it. If there is a fit, the first conversation covers what you have actually shipped or filed, what you would want to own here, and compensation, so nobody spends four rounds finding out the range does not work.
